In the Light of Your Countenance -Psalms 89:13-15

"You have a mighty arm; Strong is Your hand, and high is Your right hand. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Mercy and truth go before Your face. Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! They walk, O LORD, in the light of Your countenance."

Sons of Light -1 Thessalonians 5:3-5

I skipped over this middle section yesterday because I was trying to make the post not so long...but then I looked at these verses, and realized they were a promise in and of themselves!

"For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness."

To Be a Doorkeeper -Psalms 84:10-12

"For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in You!"

Shone in our Hearts -2 Corinthians 4:6

"For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ."

Gathered Out of the Lands -Psalms 107:2-3

This is my last post for Psalms 107...it truly is an amazing chapter, full of promises.

In other words, read the whole chapter! You won't regret it.

"Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy, and gathered out of the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south."

While this passage talks about a particular point in time, I think that verse really is, in a sense, a promise towards the future, where those that are saved will be united with Christ.

However, I also think this has application here and now, as we see an example of God's mercy. We can relate this to our lives, understanding that through salvation God has redeemed us, and gathered us out of darkness.

The Power of God's Word -Psalms 19:7-11

This passage is a great promise regarding God's Word, (The Bible), and the power it can have in our life.

"The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; The statues of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward."

Enlarging My Path -Psalms 18:36

"You enlarged my path under me, So my feet did not slip."

A sure footing is only found in Christ.

Leap Over A Wall -Psalms 18:27-29

"For You will save the humble people, But will bring down haughty looks. For You will light my lamp; The LORD my God will enlighten my darkness. For by You I can run against a troop, By my God I can leap over a wall."

This was good for me to read today...I've been in a position where I don't know for sure what God wants me to be doing right now...so to read that God will "enlighten my darkness" is an encouraging promise.

On top of that, I also have been busy with a ton of school...so to hear that "By my God I can leap over a wall" is an encouragement to keep pressing forward...


Rest in His Promises!

Righteousness and Peace Have Kissed -Psalms 85:10-13

"Mercy and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed. Truth shall spring out of the earth, And righteousness shall look down from heaven. Yes, the LORD will give what is good; And our land will yield its increase. Righteousness will go before Him, And shall make His footsteps our pathway."

Knowing Just Like We Are Known -1 Corinthians 13:12

"For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known."

You Hold Me -Psalms 73:22-24

"I was so foolish and ignorant; I was like a beast before You. Nevertheless I am continually with You; You hold me by my right hand. You will guide me with Your counsel, And afterward receive me to glory."

Our Soul Among the Living -Psalms 66:8-9

"Oh, bless our God, you peoples! And make the voice of His praise to be heard, Who keeps our soul among the living, And does not allow our feet to be moved."

The Paths of the Lord -Psalms 25:10

"All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth, To such as keep His covenant and His testimonies."

Even to Death -Psalms 48:12-14

"Walk about Zion, And go all around her. Count her towers; Mark well her palaces; That you may tell it to the generation following. For this is God, Our God forever and ever; He will be our guide Even to death."

So I Can Walk Before God -Psalms 56:12-13

"Vows made to You are binding upon me, O God; I will render praises to You, For You have delivered my soul from death. Have You not kept my feet from falling, That I may walk before God In the light of the living?" 

I like that picture...God has kept us from falling so we can walk before Him in His light.

Waiting Patiently -Psalms 40:1-3

I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps, He has put a new song in my mouth - Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the LORD."

Light is Sown -Psalms 97:11-12

This is a continuation of yesterday's post:

"Light is sown for the righteous, And gladness for the upright in heart."

What should our response be to this promise? Verse twelve tells us,

"Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous, And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy Name." 

Now Light -Ephesians 5:8

"For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light"

I really like how this verse shows our position...we were once in darkness, but now we are light...

Light and Salvation -Psalms 27:1

"The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid."

I wish I had read this verse earlier today...that being said, it's even encouraging now.

This well-known verse is such a great reminder: God saves us, guides us (He's our light), and is also our strength...what a great promise!


No need for fear.

The Father of Lights -James 1:17

This verse to me is a reminder to focus...any time that I lose track, and start to focus on the world, this verse points me back to reality. True happiness only comes from God. I really like the picturesque description used for God in this verse..."The Father of Lights." Jesus truly is "The Light of the world."

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning."

This really is an incomplete thought, however, so go read James, especially James 1! That will give a better perspective to this encouraging promise.
